The Via Francigena is a historical route, a major road once walked along by thousands of pilgrims on their way to Rome.

History has it that it was Sigeric, the Archbishop of Canterbury going to Rome to visit Pope John XV in the year 900 who started the itinerary which became one of the most important routes for pilgrims.
